Images that combine minutes, centimeters and light years in a single scale.

Project Here Then, There Now’ is dominated by an extended concept of photographic imagery which overlaps with the intimate and common problems of political, cultural, and personal identity of contemporary society. The display also features a fragmentary presentation of a series of photographs that explore memory, imagination, and the links between time and place. The works address the following questions: does time exist, and how? how long is an instant? how does photography express duration or a certain segment of time? The presented astrophotographic studies are imprints of the wide night sky and the movement of the cosmic bodies. The project subtly combines the possibilities of traditional black-and-white photography and new ways of photography, in order to convey the well-thought-out motives of creative work.

The series is based on the fact that it takes about 8 minutes for sunlight to reach the surface of the Earth. In each double exposure analogue photograph there is eight minutes gap between captured sun light. The work shall also be seen as an experiment of representing temporality and the irreversible flow of physical time, through the limited means available in static photographic space.

Exhibitions is part of gallery's project "2019. Accents“. Projects is partly financed by the Lithuanian Council for Culture.
