Venue: Meno Parkas Gallery (Rotušės a. 27, 44279 Kaunas, Lithuania)
You are kindly invited to the opening of Sebastian and Christoph Mügge exhibition "Are you sure that you want to save all traces?". It will take place on the 2nd of June (Thursday) on 6pm at Meno Parkas Gallery (Rotušės a. 27, Kaunas).
"Are you sure that you want to save all traces?" is an immersive installation about the abundance of traces we leave behind us when we die, and the big question is how relatives should negotiate about what to keep and what to erase. After the shock and grief of a sudden bereavement it is not an easy task to be responsible for a legacy in the form of huge collections of all kinds of objects and massive amounts of digital data.
Being rational in a situation like this is certainly not an easy decision for a mourning person who has to act quickly, and it makes it worse that these decisions are often regretted when more time has passed. This universal topic is interpreted by the artist brothers in a very distinct combination of found material and their own characteristic style in various technics, combining parts like a series of works on paper that represents a stamp collection from Kaunas, pages of vintage exercise books, representations of modern and historical prosthesis referring to phantom pain and decaying graveyard flowers, as well as several other local and personal anecdotes.
Sebastian Mügge (b. 1981) and Christoph Mügge (b. 1983) were both born in Bonn, Germany and live in Sweden. Sebastian got his MFA degree from Umeå Academy of Fine Arts in 2011 and Christoph studied at Kunstakademie Düsseldorf where he received his diploma in 2013.
