Private view of the drawing exhibition "Psychodelicus", by prominent Lithuanian painter Antanas Martinaitis (1939-1986), will be held on 31st of July (Wednesday) at 6p.m.at Meno Parkas Gallery in Kaunas (Rotušės a. 27). During the opening evening will be presentation of the new poetry book "The story of a lone bird". The poetry will be read by actor-director Stanislovas Nacius.
The book "The story of a lone bird" is illustrated by Antanas Martinaitis' drawings series "Psychodelicus".
Exhibited drawings are from two cycles "Psichodelicos" and "Mimicrios", which where created during period of 1975‒1982. The drawings can be considered as unexposed, uncensored Lithuanian Soviet art. Antanas Martinaitis where exceptional creator who has left many poems, diary notes and marginal drawings. His particular talent for improvisation and his ability to draw in a single line conveying a spatiality, perspective, three-dimensional volumes; the mastery of transformation and deformation of forms, sharp angles, as well as the ability to create new words and skillfully combine them with the image, is an exceptional artistic phenomenon in Lithuanian Soviet art.
During the opening evening where presented the new poetry book "The story of a lone bird" which is also illustrated by Antanas Martinaitis' drawings series "Psychodelicos".
The exhibition is part of Meno Parkas Gallery's project “Antanas Martinaitis. Drawings”. The project is partly financed by Lithuanian Council for Culture.
