For the fourth time gallery "Meno parkas" (Kaunas / Dusseldorf) presents four artists at contemporary art fair POSITIONS Berlin held on September 27-30, which is a part of Berlin Art Week

This year "Meno parkas" present works by gallery's artists Elena Balsiukaitė-Brazdžiūnienė, Agnė Jonkutė, Žilvinas Landzbergas and Česlovas Lukenskas.

POSITIONS Berlin Art Fair will showcase 74 selected international galleries with their most significant artistic positions of contemporary and modern art. For the fifth edition POSITIONS Berlin moves to the Hangar 4 at the Berlin-Tempelhof Airport (Columbiadamm 10, 10965 Berlin) and offers its visitors again an attractive supporting programme with talks, awards, special exhibitions and other events.

 

Presented artists:

Žilvinas Landzbergas (1979, lives and works in Lithuania). Artist just came back from Bienal de São Paulo (Brazil), where he takes part in group show "The Slow Bird" curated by Claudia Fontes.
Landzbergas studied at Vilnius Academy of Arts and completed De Ateliers postgraduate course in Amsterdam. Since 2003 has been exhibiting in Lithuania and internationally, including solo exhibitions at the Contemporary Art Centre (Vilnius) and Modern Art (Oxford). He was presented at Lithuanian Pavilion at the 57th Venice Biennial (2017). Also, curently is participating at Riga Biennale (2018).

Česlovas Lukenskas (1959, lives and works in Lithuania) is a dean of Vilnius Academy of Arts since 2011. Already classic of Lithuanian contemporary art, Česlovas Lukenskas, maintain cherishing wildness and particular chaos. His creative field consists of installations, objects, actions and performance, he has gained professional musical education and is one of pioneers of contemporary Lithuanian art, awarded with Grand Prix at Europa Biennial “Niederlausitz II” (Brandenburg, Germany).
Artist's installation CREMATES is going to be presented at POSITIONS. For this installation artist uses only recycled materials, including framing and glass, what was chosen according the concept of the piece. He is rethinking history and place of human in its’ flow, responsibilities we can’t run away from. The way artwork is produced is also ritualistic – Česlovas Lukenskas creates with his hands recognizable symbols that are important even painful and let fire slowly change them. Burned wood coal is something very fragile and something but still in its inner structure in its meaning close to diamond – something very strong. Just like the symbols are. Archetypes.
Installation CREMATES (2017)
"essential ideological symbols / icons / signs, touching in particular traumatic experiences of human in recent ages. Signs pool to demolish representatives and identities of other signs. For some mythologems, victims and executioners, eternities and dusts of temporary, renouncing the highest humanity values, finds themselves in the face of question of the meaning of existence without answers. Agnė Jonkutė (born in 1974, lives and works in Lithuania), while creating painting and installations, researches humans’ relationship with surrounding. It is interesting for her an interval from starting point where human just has been here but already isn’t. But it is possible to feel traces. This existential nostalgia is especially felt in emotionally strong painting compositions.
A. Jonkute stands out with exceptional artistic thinking, which is reflected with frugal ways of expression. This frugality (for colour, quantity etc.) might be perceived as strict and diligent search (or selection) for substance in order to externalize desired feeling, relation, moment of State.
A.Jonkute’s works are in collections of: European Central Bank (Frankfurt, Germany), Modern Art Center (Vilnius, Lithuania), M.K.Ciurlionis Nationam Museum of Art, in private collections: Lithuania, Germany, The Netherlands, Latvia, Norway, Finland, Italy, China, Emyrates.

Elena Balsiukaitė-Brazdziunienė (born in 1958, lives and works in Lithuania) is working expressively and could be called an ace of painting. Artist usually uses bright, dark colors, her compositions are loud and passionate, multi-layered, strongly appreciated by art critics and collectors. She could be called a fighter with her creation: she is reactive to the surrounding, daily life, strongly emotional and it is obvious, that through creation she discharges. Presented at POSITIONS painting „Rosario“ (2014) carries fragile rose petals stuck on expressive painting surface. It speaks well about author‘s attitude – she is strong expressive painter using pop art elements in her paintings - it appears as a detail, storyline, a gossip or naivety – socially sensitive painter is tracing today‘s folklore and depicting it. Along with paint she uses different materials - sand, soil, found objects that add some voodoo to her paintings. Author is nominated with multiple awards from Kaunas State and Ministry of Culture of Lithuania, exhibited in many foreign countries.
